ENGEO Received the APWA National Project of the Year Award

ENGEO is honored to share that The Naturalization of Line D (New Ohlone Creek) was honored with the APWA National Project of the Year Award in the Environmental category ($5M–$25M)!

This transformative project reimagined Line D into a naturalized creek channel, enhancing flood protection, ecological value, and public access. ENGEO provided hazardous materials services throughout design and construction—including site exploration, health risk assessments, and preparation of remedial plans reviewed and approved by the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC).

Despite complex technical challenges—including impacted soils, artesian water, and sensitive receptors—our team successfully kept the project moving forward with persistence and collaboration.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the project team including Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District and Ohlone College for their partnership throughout this journey.

Scott Johns, PE, QSD, served as ENGEO project manager and proudly represented ENGEO at the award ceremony in Chicago on August 18th, celebrating this national recognition with industry peers.

“Receiving the APWA National Project of the Year Award for The Naturalization of Line D is a proud moment for all of us at ENGEO. This project challenged us technically and logistically, but it also showcased the power of collaboration and perseverance. It was an honor to represent our team in Chicago and celebrate the impact this work will have on the community for years to come,” says Scott Johns.

From local recognition in Northern California to national acclaim—this win is a testament to the power of teamwork, perseverance, and purpose-driven engineering.
